The journal International Shipbuilding Progress (ISP) was founded in 1954. Each year two issues appear (in March and September). Publications submitted to ISP should describe scientific work of high international standards, advancing subjects related to the field of Marine Technology, such as:
- Concept development
- General design of ships and offshore objects
- Ship and offshore structural design
- Hydro-mechanics and -dynamics
- Maritime engineering and machinery systems
- Production processes of all types of ships and other objects intended for marine use
- Production technology and material science
- Shipping science, economics, and all directly related subjects
- Ship operations
- Offshore and ocean engineering in relation to the marine environment
- Marine safety
- Efficiency, lifecycle, and environment
- Ice-related aspects for ships and offshore objects.
The contents of the papers may be of a fundamental or of an applied scientific nature and must be of the highest novelty and rigor.

Abstract: Experiments were carried out on a model of the Great Lakes bulk carrier, Stewart J. Cort, jointed amidships, with four different connecting beams. These beams provided different degrees of stiffness and hence of natural frequency of vertical hull vibration. Springing was simulated in short regular waves generated in a model tank at various resonant combinations of model speed and wave length. At equal speeds the effect of increasing stiffness was found to be a decrease in the magnitude of springing at resonance when expressed as bending moment relative to wave slope. Parallel theoretical calculations were carried out which …were found to be extremely sensitive to the level of damping introduced. Good agreement was obtained between trends of theory and experiment after refinements were introduced into the theory. Show more

Abstract: The performance of a diesel-electric propulsion system is compared with other propulsion systems with special consideration of geared diesels and controllable pitch propellers. The influence of ice loads on the choice of icebreaker screw parameters and strength requirements are discussed.

Abstract: The differential equations for the mean and variance of coupled nonlinear ship motion in random waves are derived, using the Fokker-Planck equation. The procedure for obtaining the stationary response is then described. The example of a ship performing oscillations in two modes with quadratic static coupling is considered, for the purpose of illustrating the method.
