The journal International Shipbuilding Progress (ISP) was founded in 1954. Each year two issues appear (in March and September). Publications submitted to ISP should describe scientific work of high international standards, advancing subjects related to the field of Marine Technology, such as:

Abstract: Approximate methods for the analysis of z-steering tests are suggested. Describing function techniques are used to derive the equations. A time-domain method is given for that class of z-steering tests in which the describing function method is not accurate enough. The accuracy of the approximate methods is verified by theoretical considerations and computer simulation. Taking into account other sources of inaccuracy, the accuracy of the derived relations is found to be sufficient.

Abstract: In this investigation first K - and T -figures from the equation of motion, as presented by Nomoto , were determined by means of model experiments. This was done for a cargoliner and a tanker respectively, for different rudder area’s and speeds. After that the steering ability of the human operator was investigated as a logical consequence to the knowledge already available for fast response objects as aircrafts and automobiles. An analysis of the ship’s steering follows, taking into account both the ship’s response and the response of the helmsman.
