The journal International Shipbuilding Progress (ISP) was founded in 1954. Each year two issues appear (in March and September). Publications submitted to ISP should describe scientific work of high international standards, advancing subjects related to the field of Marine Technology, such as:

Abstract: Theoretical investigations recently reported in the literature claim that it is possible to increase the propeller efficiency above the so called Lerbs’s optimum by increasing the tip load. The critical examination given below indicates however that this result is questionable, the main reason being inconsistencies in the lifting line theory. Thus check calculations show that the thrust derived from the momentum law is lower than the thrust computed by the law of Kutta-Joukowsky, especially for tip loaded propellers. To get the same thrust by the two principles a certain reduction of the pitch of the helical tip vortices is necessary.

Abstract: This article reviews the results and methods associated with model tests in waves on seagoing tug-barge units. It considers the analysis of the observed phenomena which is based on experience gained from physical model tests carried out at the NSMB, the Wageningen/Ede Laboratories of the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN). The results presented in this paper are based upon a limited number of model experiments and must be applied only with proper reserve. Abstract: The response of an ocean going vessel can often be represented as a Gaussian stochastic process. This paper presents a method of predicting the extreme values of such a process, allowance being made for the clumping of peaks. The method draws upon the considerable amount of published literature which is available concerning the limiting decay rate of first crossing probability of a linear oscillator, which is then modified to be applicable to a process having a general spectrum.
