Abstract: The paper deals with a magnetostrictive fast-acting actuator applied as a driving device for plasma valve designed for so called ``high intensity plasma pulses gun''. The actuator is characterized by a small displacement, but with a very short response time - below 0.1 ms. A structure with an axisymmetrical actuator energised by discharged pulses of a capacitor has been proposed. The field-circuit mathematical model of the dynamic operation of the actuator has been applied. The model includes: the equation of transient electromagnetic field in a non-linear ferromagnetic material and equation of electric circuit. The computer software has been elaborated. Abstract: This paper presents an optimization framework for the robust design of electrical machines. During the run of a genetic algorithm, all evaluated solutions are kept in an archive, and are used to build different meta-models for the assessment of robustness. The proposed robust design algorithms are verified using analytical test functions and are shown to be efficient and accurate. They have also been applied to the robust design of a surface mount permanent magnet machine considering manufacturing imprecision and different optimal designs (robust and non-robust) are obtained.

Abstract: The paper deals with a multi-objective optimization method inspired by island biogeography. Specifically, a non-linear model of migration is proposed: a sinusoidal law rules both immigration and emigration curves in order to match the natural behaviour which is observed in a natural habitat. The optimal shape design of an electrostatic micromotor, which is a benchmark in MEMS design, is considered as the case study.

Abstract: The structural integrity of any replacement has to be tested to prevent premature failure and thus maintaining the reliability of the implant. The study on physical properties of biomaterials now-a-days plays an important role in understanding their nature. Our aim is the investigation of the possibility to use microwave resonant methods for in vivo and in vitro testing of homogeneity of dental materials. Abstract: In this paper a genetic algorithm based optimal design of an axial flux permanent magnet motor (AFPMM) is proposed. This approach employs a genetic algorithm (GA) technique as a search tool for optimal design solution of a AFPMM based on the value of the objective function. Abstract: Magneto-Fluid Hyperthermia (MFH) is a clinical treatment of cancer that exploits a magnetic nano-fluid to heat pathological tissues by means of a time-harmonics magnetic field: nanoparticles injected in cells cultured in a Petri dish are subject to the external field and heat. Abstract: In electric power steering (EPS), spoke type brushless ac (BLAC) motors offer distinct advantages over other electric motor types in terms of torque smoothness, reliability and efficiency. This paper deals with the shape optimization of spoke type BLAC motor, in order to minimization cogging torque. In this paper examines, 3 step skewing rotor angle, optimizing rotor core edge and rotor overlap length for minimize cogging torque in spoke type BLAC motor. The methods were applied to existing machine designs and their performance was calculated using finite- element analysis (FEA). Abstract: This paper presents a computational tool intended to achieves optimal configurations of conductors with capacity of transmission of energy improved. This arrangement is obtained by calculate and minimize of electric fields at ground level of High Surge Impedance Loading transmission lines. This type of transmission line has higher power transmission rates by utilizing optimized configuration for the conductors. Abstract: Non-conforming sliding interfaces can be used in finite element (FE) simulations for the flexible implementation of the relative motion between stator and rotor of e.g. electrical machines. Lagrange multipliers are applied to ensure the continuity of the field across the non-conforming interface. A previously proposed approach is extended by time stepping methods to consider eddy-currents. In this paper, the formulation is presented and applied to a benchmark problem to validate the approach.

Abstract: This paper presents a method for specifying the magnetostrictive vibrations of the transformer cores operating with different submagnetizing of DC flux (for the flow of DC flux through magnetic circuit and as a yoke flux) and for different values of supply voltage (flux density in the core). The theoretical method to determine the content of higher harmonics of magnetostrictive vibrations of the cores was developed. The computation and corresponding measurements were performed for single phase and three phase, three and five legs transformer cores. The discussion was carried out in the frequency range from 50 to 1000 Hz.
