Abstract: The fatigue strength of Me-DLC coating on NiTi shape memory alloy was investigated. Me-DLC was deposited on SMA by radio-frequency chemical vapor deposition and co-sputtering of metal target. The fatigue strength of Me-DLC has been evaluated by applying 1% cyclic bending strain. The surfaces of the coating were observed after bending test by using an optical microscope, a scanning electron microscope and an atomic force microscope. In the result of 1% cyclic bending test, fatigue strength …was improved by metal addition. The investigated coating can endure the cyclic bending test up to 10^{5} . Show more

Abstract: An optimization design method of giant magnetostrictive transducer has been proposed based on the circuit theory and system dynamic equation. The method includes three parts. 1) Establishing the equivalent circuit of the transducer's vibration components and educing the dimensions of the transducer components. 2) Based on these dimensions, the distribution of magnetic field in the Terfenol-D was calculated. 3) Using finite element method, the magneto-mechanical coupled dynamic equation was founded and the resonance …frequency can be obtained. Calculating and experimental results show that this method can be used to optimise the structure of magnetostrictive transducers in order to transfer the maximal energy. Show more

Abstract: Health Management System has become a methodological tendency treating the modern complex system in terms of safety and economics. OSA-CBM has been widely accepted as a standard architecture of the Health Management System. According to the architecture, an open and configurable knowledge management system is required to function as the key to the Health Management System. Through the ontology modeling of the domain knowledge, the sharing and reuse of the knowledge can be achieved. Building the …related reasoning rules and with the help of reasoner, domain knowledge involved in health management can be inferred. With this knowledge, the related functional agent can be organized into a multi-agent system to achieve the health management task. A strategy of voting mechanism is proposed in data fusion to improve the veracity and reliability of diagnosis. A system of bolt health management system is shown to verify the system and its efficiency. Show more

Abstract: Control of clamping pressure on blood vessel is a commonly concerned issue in minimally invasive surgeries. While complicated sensing-feedback-control systems are developed for clamping in robotic surgeries, a simple mechanism for the pressure control is desired. In this paper, we propose a new structure of endoscopic forceps to solve the problem of nonlinear relation between the clamping pressure and grasping force. A shape memory alloy (SMA) wire embedded endoscopic clamp is proposed to control the …clamping pressure within a safe range. A typical configuration of the clamp is designed based on the discussion on the detailed geometric dimension of SMA wires and blood vessels. Show more

Abstract: The comb capacitive micromachined gyroscope is a kind of typical MEMS sensor. Electrostatic driving and comb capacitive detection are its typical working mode. Recently, researchers have found that the narrow space between two combs can result in comb adhesion easily because of micro scaling effect. In this paper, some micro forces such as capillary force, Van der Waals force, electrostatic force and Casimir force were analyzed and the relation curves of micro force and its acting …distance were obtained. In order to make sure the influences of relative humidity on the micro-combs, a contrast experiment was also carried out. Through analysis on the micro forces, the acting distance curves of micro forces were finally obtained. Show more

Abstract: Thermal micro actuators are fabricated using deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) technique on silicon on insulator (SOI) substrates. The sidewalls of silicon microstructure in micro actuator are used as optical interfaces with the fibers. Line edge roughness (LER) of reflective sidewalls is essential to device performance. A method is presented through analyzing high-resolution top-down scanning electron microscope (SEM) images to characterize sidewall line edge roughness (LER) of Si microstructures in thermal micro …actuator, only conventional SEM scanning technique is required. Abstract: This paper presents the design, fabrication and characterization of a MEMS three-axial micro-force probe sensor for dimensional metrology of micro object in microcosmic field and micro-force measurement in the field of bio-medical and robot finger. Through analysis of the stress distribution of the sensor by theoretical and ANSYS software, a model of the structure is established and the piezoresistors are doped on the end of the beam to get high sensitivity. The optical fibre probe is …design to be ladder structure. The die size of the sensor is 4 × 4 × 5.9 mm^{3} , and it is fabricated by MEMS technology. Preliminary characterization tests have been performed by means of an experimental test bench, the experiment results indicate that the sensor can test three-axial micro-force in μN scale, and the resolution is up to 3 μN. Abstract: Most traditional approaches to load identification usually perform not very well because the inverse identification problem in most practical cases is ill-posed. In this paper, a new approach to the identification of dynamic loads based on the solution path algorithm of support vector regression is proposed. A general framework of dynamic load identification using support vector regression is derived and the corresponding identification model using solution path algorithm is established. The results of numerical and …experimental tests on cylinder vibration system show that the proposed approach greatly outperforms existing methods, i.e., direct inverse identification method, ε-SVR and LS-SVM, in terms of identification accuracy and numerical stability. As a conclusion, the proposed approach is applicable to a wide variety of mechanical cases. Show more

Abstract: This paper proposes a method to identify sub-surface defect parameters in plates, using pulse-echo EMAT modes. First, the proposed method deploys a reduced simulation model to efficiently reduce the computational cost of EMAT forward analysis. Then, an approach of signal processing based on peak values at back-wall echo and POD method applied to extracted feature of EMAT signal are introduced. Finally, inverse analysis based on reduced POD basics is applied for defect parameters identification. Promising experimental …results with high accuracy on both simulation and synthetic measurement data demonstrate the capability and effectiveness of the proposed method. The extension of this method can be applied in pipe inspection for defect characterization. Show more

Abstract: In this paper, a layering analysis scheme for reconstruction of deep Stress Corrosion Cracks (SCC) from ECT signals is proposed based on a strategy of multiple frequency excitation and multiple liftoff in order to improve the sizing accuracy. The shape profiles and conductivity of the crack are reconstructed respectively using a hybrid inversion scheme. The profiles of several cracks are reconstructed from simulated signals of conductive notches and measured signals of an artificial SCC. It is …demonstrated that the new strategy is promising for the improvement of the sizing precision of SCC. Show more
