Abstract: In this paper, the magnetic losses of a supply current sensor dedicated to circuit breakers are investigated. Measurements were performed using an accurate calorimeter covering a measurement range of [1 mW; 10 W]. Several frequencies and voltages were tested. A model of the sensor’s core material (NO SiFe sheet M250-50A) was built with the Loss Surface (LS) dynamic hysteresis model and implemented in a 3D FEM computation tool. The sensor was simulated and iron losses were computed. Comparison between experiments and simulation shows a high concordance that leads to conclude about the reliability of the LS model.

Abstract: The article presents a new electromechanical model of inductive-dynamic drive. The model is implemented in two environments: Maxwell for analyzing electrodynamic phenomena including moving of the disc and Ansys which allows for stress analysis on the basis of the volume forces imported from Maxwell. Additionally, a model validation by comparing with the existing circumferential model was carried out.

Abstract: Electrodynamic actuators are used in hybrid switching systems where a very quick contact separation as well as operation repeatability and long-term reliability are required. The article presents selected results of thermal studies in the electrodynamic drive system. Study was carried out on the basis of the 3D electromagneto-thermal model implemented in the Ansys_Maxwell environment. The present model allows to determine the critical parameters related to the heating and to guarantee the correct and repeatable operation of the actuator.

Abstract: Displacement-amplified electromagnetic actuators (DAEAs) have been developed for efficiently using the electromagnetic attractive force by magnifying the motion of the change of a gap in which the electromagnetic attractive force is generated. This method enables us to use the large electromagnetic force with the gap being small for a larger stroke. This study applies DAEAs to an inchworm mechanism to realize motion on waving rails and precise positioning. A prototype was developed, and a fundamental experiment revealed the performance of the proposed inchworm mechanism.

Abstract: In this paper, based on the coupling theory of electromagnetics and structural dynamics, a design method for digital shaker system was proposed by means of control instruction analysis and data stream scheduling method (CIADSS). The paper first gives the theoretical basis and design method of digital shaker system. Then a design example was given to verify the feasibility of the design method. This design method realized the design of digital shaker system and laid the foundation for Computer Aided Test (CAT) of the shaker.

Abstract: Recently, the majority of artificial hearts have been non-pulsatile types. However natural hearts are pulsatile, and the long-term bio-compatibility of the non-pulsatile types has not been confirmed. We developed a linear actuator that can expect to be applied to pulsatile artificial heart. This linear actuator was applied to an electromagnetic pump. It consists of power transmission, tanks, and permanent magnets. We propose a structure to reduce power consumption by a spring. Reduction in power consumption makes possible to downsize the entire apparatus.

Abstract: Dielectric electro-active polymer (DEAP) is a new kind of smart material, which has a strong application potential in intelligent control field due to the large mechanical deformation under electrical stimulation. Based on the actuation performance of this material, the DC voltage is necessary for reciprocating actuation. Thus, it is essential to study the actuation performance under DC voltage. In this article, the actuation performance of a DEAP actuator under DC voltage is discussed, the electromechanical coupling model is firstly given considering the frequency-dependent characteristic of the dielectric elastomeric materials. Then the drive displacement performance under DC voltage is studied numerically …and experimentally. The simulation results are consistent well with the experimental ones and both demonstrate that this actuator have good displacement output capacity. Moreover, the influence of voltage on the dynamic stiffness of actuator and vibration isolation performance are investigated as well. The dynamic stiffness model of actuator is derived based on the electromechanical coupling model and the vibration isolation performances of a signal degree of freedom system under different DC voltages have been examined. The simulation and experiment results show that the DC voltage has little effect on the vibration isolation performance although the dynamic stiffness of actuator is related to voltage. Therefore, the dynamic characteristics of DEAP actuator can be regarded as to be invariable within a certain range of voltage. This feature of actuator are beneficial to vibration control application in the future. Show more

Abstract: In this paper, an electromagnetic analysis study of a double-sided linear permanent magnet (PM) motor topology is conducted both for conventional and Halbach array magnet assemblies. Halbach arrays can condense flux lines on the one side of magnet assembly and cancel them on the reverse side, so they enable light motor structures due to the lack of back iron material. By means of the analyses, the critical performance criteria of linear motor are investigated. The designs are verified experimentally. The induced voltages and force production of prototype motors are captured to validate the design study. The findings show that Halbach …array magnet assembly type linear motor has superiority for force production and lightness of design. Show more

Abstract: A magnetically levitated motor can realize non-contact support and rotation of the rotor using magnetic force. Therefore, it has many advantages over conventional mechanical bearings. This paper proposed new magnetically levitated motor (Maglev motor). The proposed maglev motor uses a radial bearingless motor to control both of radial translation (x and y ) motion and rotation (𝜃z ), and axial magnetic bearings to control both of axial translation (z ) and tilt motion (𝜃x and 𝜃y ). Moreover, stators were installed on the inner side of the rotor, such that the flux path of the axial magnetic bearing …and radial bearingless motor are partially-shared. Therefore, the proposed magnetic levitated motor is small, while achieving five degrees of freedom active control. The prototype machine was designed using FEM magnetic analysis. According to this analysis, the device had sufficient magnetic force to control the rotor within a designed airgap. In addition, axial directional dynamic characteristics were measured. Show more

Abstract: In this paper, flexible piezoelectric devices (FPEDs) connected by springs are discussed with the aim of improving operational bandwidth of an energy harvesting system. A theoretical method, based on beam theory, electromechanical coupling and the transfer matrix method, is presented for calculating displacement and voltage responses. Validity of the presented method is discussed by comparison with experimental results, which are obtained from coupled FPEDs excited by a shaker. The effects on system behaviour of attaching springs is discussed based on both the presented method and experimental results.
