Abstract: This study aims to quantitatively evaluate the chill structure in ductile cast iron using the incremental permeability method, focusing on the dependence of chill structure on magnetic properties. The relationship between some parameters of the incremental permeability method and the micro-structure of the matrix (ferrite, pearlite, chill) is discussed. As a result, each area fraction of ferrite, pearlite, and chill can be evaluated by multi-parameter analysis. Then, the hardness of the cast iron samples is estimated based on the discussed incremental permeability parameters.
