Abstract: This paper studies the multi-attribute decision making (MADM) problems under two situations that the attributes are independent and correlative, respectively, in which the attribute values take the form of dual hesitant fuzzy linguistic elements and the weights of attributes take the form of real numbers. Firstly, the concept, operational laws, score function and accuracy function of dual hesitant fuzzy linguistic element (DHFLE) are defined. For the situation that the attributes are independent, some dual hesitant fuzzy linguistic geometric aggregation operators are proposed. Considering that there exists prioritization among the attributes, we propose several dual hesitant fuzzy linguistic prioritized aggregation operators …based on the prioritized average (PA) operator. Moreover, some desirable properties and special cases of these operators are investigated in detail. Based on the proposed operators, two novel approaches to MADM with dual hesitant fuzzy linguistic information are proposed. Finally, a numerical example for investment alternative selection is given to illustrate the application of the proposed methods. Show more

Abstract: This paper presents a study on isolated hybrid distributed generation (DG) system combining solar photovoltaic (PV), fuel cell (FC) and ultra-capacitor (UC) for improving the frequency profile. The PV system is used as the main power generation source, while the long-term energy balance is supposed to be generated by FC, besides, as for the short-term compensation the UC is used. The PV is controlled to track the maximum power point at all operating conditions by employing an efficient robust terminal sliding mode controller (TSMC). The proposed MPPT controller guarantees fast convergence of MPP tracking and high robustness against PV system …parameters variation. In this part, to demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of the TSMC controller, comparison with Proportional Integral (PI) control was performed. In the following, with the optimization of droop controller by applying the Improved Particle Swarm Optimization (IPSO) algorithm the frequency deviation in the various states changing of generated power and consumed power declines significantly. To demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed frequency controller, optimal droop frequency controller using IPSO algorithm, is compared with conventional and improved droop controllers. Employing matlab/simulink® environment based on nonlinear detailed mathematical and dynamic models, simulation results under the real weather data and practical load demand profile are presented to validate the proposed scheme. Abstract: This paper makes uses of an intelligent framework based on improved fuzzy particle swarm optimization (IFPSO) algorithm to control the desired frequency of the power grid for stand-alone application. In this regard, a new schematic of an isolated hybrid energy system combining Wind Turbine (WT), Fuel Cell (FC) and Ultra Capacitor (UC) using nonlinear detailed models has been presented. In this system, the WT is used as the main power generation source. Fuel cell and Ultra Capacitor are introduced as a backup energy source and buffer storage to supply the load demand for all various operating conditions. In the proposed …system, in order to use the grid's capability to its best, the second order sliding (SOSMC) mode strategy is employed to extract the maximum power from wind in the below the rated wind speed. In this part, to validate the performance and capabilities of the proposed MPPT strategy, a comparison with the classical ATF controller was performed using Matlab/Simulink. Moreover, to demonstrate the effectiveness of IFPSO algorithm, optimal droop frequency controller using IFPSO algorithm is compared with conventional and improved droop controllers. According to the simulation results, applying proposed method, the frequency deviation of the isolated power grid in dynamical state declines significantly. Show more

Abstract: Pairwise comparison matrix (PCM) with crisp or fuzzy elements should satisfy consistency requirements when it is used in analytic hierarchy process (AHP) or in fuzzy AHP methodologies. An algorithm has been presented to obtain a new modified consistent PCM for the corresponding inconsistent original one. The algorithm sets a linear programming problem based on all of the constraints. To obtain the optimum eigenvector of the middle value of the new PCM, segment tree is used to gradually approach the greatest lower bound of distance with the original PCM. As to obtain the lower value and upper value of the new …PCM, a theory is proposed to reduce adding uncertainty factors and could maximum maintain the similarity with original PCM. The experiments for crisp elements show that the proposed approach can preserve more the original information than references. The experiments for fuzzy elements show that our method can effectively reduce inconsistency and obtain suitable modified fuzzy PCMs. Show more

Abstract: In this paper, we consider a block replacement policy with no replacement at failure and apply it to a system consisting of a new type of units. Due to the absence of historical data of lifetimes of new units, we fail to obtain the probability distribution of lifetimes. In this case, some domain experts are invited to provide belief degree of lifetime to estimate its distribution. However, human beings often overestimate unlikely events, which makes the variance of belief degree is much greater than that of the frequency. In order to deal with this problem, we assume the lifetime of …the unit to be an uncertain variable. An uncertain block replacement model with no replacement at failure is proposed, and the existence condition of the optimal replacement time is given. Finally, a numerical example and sensitivity analysis are provided to illustrate the utility of the proposed model in practice. Show more

Abstract: Interval type-2 fuzzy logic systems (IT2-FLSs) have recently been utilized in many control processes due to their ability to model uncertainties better than their type-1 (T1) counterparts. While an IT2-FLS has the capability to model more complex relationships, the output of a type-2 fuzzy inference engine needs to be type-reduced. The high computational cost of the type-reduction (TR) process means that it is more expensive to deploy the IT2-FLSs, which may hinder them from certain cost-sensitive real-world applications. This paper proposes a new method of TR to reduce their computational cost and also, it improves the performance of the IT2-FLS. …The proposed TR method is compared with the Karnik–Mendel (KM) based TR method which is the standard way to do these operations and other alternative TR methods. The simulation results show that the performance of the IT2-FLS based on the proposed TR method is made significantly improved the performance over a wide range of structured uncertainties and the effect of the external disturbances. Abstract: In order to develop Human-centered Driver Assistance Systems (HDAS), an efficient Combined Feature (CF) extraction approach from Contourlet Transform (CT) and Edge Orientation Histogram (EOH) is proposed for vehicle driving posture descriptions. A Random Subspace Ensemble (RSE) of Intersection Kernel Support Vector Machines (IKSVMs) is then exploited as the base classifier. Four testing driving postures are grasping the steering wheel, operating the shift lever, eating a cake, and talking on a cellar phone. On a dedicated Southeast University Driving Posture (SEU-DP) Database, the holdout and cross-validation experiments were conducted. The experimental results show that the proposed CF-RSE approach outperforms single …Contourlet-IKSVM, EOH-IKSVM recognition strategies. With CF-RSE, the average classification accuracies of four driving posture classes are over 90%. Among the four classes of driving postures, the class of grasping the steering wheel is the most difficult to recognize and the proposed approach achieved over 85% accuracy in both experiments. These encouraging results show that the proposed CF-RSE approach is effective and hence has great promises in developing a successful HDAS. Show more

Abstract: In this paper, a car license plate recognition (CLPR) system is presented. A CLPR system has three main subsystems such as; localization of the license plate in a given image; character segmentation of the license plate; recognition of the detected characters. Firstly, fuzzy c-means clustering is employed to determine the location of the license plate. Secondly, smearing algorithms (namely horizontal and vertical projections of the pixels of the license plate image) is used to carry out character segmentation. Finally, a novel Equipartition of Kinetic Energy (EKE)-Poisson transform is developed to recognize the characters. According to results, the proposed CLPR system …is capable of supplying more than 92% of overall success rate. Show more

Abstract: This paper proposes a rule base compression method for Mamdani fuzzy systems with non-monotonic rules. The method is based on filtration of non-monotonic rules whereby the redundant computations in the fuzzy inference with respect to the crisp values of the inputs to the fuzzy system are removed. The method identifies all redundant rules after fuzzification and removes them while preserving the defuzzified output from the fuzzy system for each simulation cycle. In comparison to other rule base reduction methods, this method does not compromise the solution and is more efficient in terms of on-line computations within a wide operating range. …The method processes the rule base during simulation cycles by contracting it to a rule base of a smaller size at the start of each inference stage and then expanding it to its original size before the next fuzzification stage.
