Abstract: This paper presents a pose invariant face recognition system to annihilate pose problem by using a modified log Gabor algorithm and the concepts of rough sets together. The proposed system consists of four separate modules; face detection, pose classification, feature extraction and recognition. Rough membership function (rmf) classifier has been used to classify the poses of an image. Log Gabor has been used as feature extraction to represent the face and SVDs to reduce the redundant features. And at last, the reduced log Gabor feature is applied to the nearest neighbour classifier for recognition. The aim of this paper is …to address the issues such as recognizing the individual from mug shot images, under limited number of training samples available for large degree of variations in poses. The proposed system has been evaluated for different pose variations under arbitrary tilt orientations for four different face databases. Show more

Abstract: This paper presents a new hierarchical tree approach to clustering fuzzy data, namely extensional tree (ET) clustering algorithm. It defines a dendrogram over fuzzy data and using a new distance between fuzzy numbers based on α-cuts. The present work is based on hierarchical clustering algorithm unlike existing methods which improve FCM to support fuzzy data. The Proposed ET clustering algorithm is compared with some of the newly presented methods in the literature. The major advantage of ET, first tree clustering method over fuzzy number, in comparison with other algorithms is its fault tolerance against noisy samples. Some examples prove ability …of the proposed ET. Show more

Abstract: This paper proposes a hybrid model to identify the on-line pH characteristic of a neutralization plant. The hybrid model is the combination between neuro-fuzzy identification technique and first principle model. The neuro-fuzzy identification technique used training dataset to map the neutralization response curve in full ranges. The first principle model is based on material balances and chemical equilibrium equation. The objective of the proposed model is to extend the robustness effect for the on-line titration characteristic without having to re-design the model if the plant undergoes different conditions. In the experiment, the proposed model's dynamic response was compared with the …on-line pH data. It showed the best fit for hybrid model with dynamic weight adjustment in nominal condition (RSME = 0.1013) and in altered condition (RMSE = 0.5616) proved it capability in capturing the additional variations to a pH neutralization plant. Abstract: Fuzzy geographical phenomena widely exist in the real world, and many modeling and measurement methods for such phenomena have been reported. The most common models and methods are based on type-I fuzzy sets; therefore, they cannot measure the uncertainty of the membership value or describe complicated fuzzy geographical phenomena. Several researchers have used high-order fuzzy theory to avoid the limitations of traditional methods; however, only a few successful models and methods in that domain exist. A fuzzy region model based on interval type-II fuzzy sets is proposed in this paper, considering the uncertainty due to error and to scale effects. …Two concepts are proposed to describe the spatial geometric properties of interval type-II fuzzy geographical regions: the geometric summary property and the geometric detailed property, which can reflect different aspects of spatial attributes. Next, some geometric attributes, the area, perimeter, height, width, and extrinsic diameter, of interval type-II fuzzy regions are discussed. The theories and methods proposed in this paper can objectively describe complicated and vague geographical phenomena and thus are meaningful for the development of fuzzy geographical information science. Abstract: Taking into account the intrinsic drawbacks of both classic and fuzzy PERT, the authors present a new approach in an attempt to deal with them. The tools for this approach are fuzzy statistics and fuzzy probabilities. A necessary condition for this approach is the existence of statistical data for the project activity duration. The final findings are the fuzzy activity times (earliest/latest start – earliest/latest finish), the fuzzy float, the Criticality Degree both for each activity and for each path, a fuzzy probability for the activity duration to be in a certain time interval and a fuzzy probability for the …project completion time to be in certain time interval. A numerical example is provided for thorough comprehension. Show more

Abstract: Fuzzy logic has become a useful tool for computer science to deal with uncertain information, and various kinds of residuated lattices play an important role in modern fuzzy logic theory because they provide the algebraic frameworks to related fuzzy logic formal systems. The aim of this paper is to investigate the filter theory of residuated lattices. The notions of IMTL-filters (NM-filters, MV-filters) of residuated lattices are introduced, and the characterizations of IMTL-algebras (NM-algebras, MV-algebras) in residuated lattices are presented by these filters. Moreover, fuzzy IMTL(NM, MV)-filters and intuitionistic fuzzy IMTL(NM, MV)-filters are investigated.

Abstract: The amount of data output in our environment is increasing each day, and the development of new technologies constantly redefines how we interact with information. In the context of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), it is not uncommon to use intelligent products to ensure an information continuum all along the product life cycle (e.g. for traceability purposes). However, it is not that easy to identify what information should be stored on the product. To answer this question, this paper proposes a data dissemination process to select context-sensitive information from the database, that must be stored/replicated on the product (especially if the …product is made of “communicating material”). Our approach uses the fuzzy AHP theory for aggregating points of view from different actors. The data dissemination process is then applied on a case study to embed context-sensitive information on a “communicating textile”. Show more

Abstract: Description logics have been studied in depth in data modeling. This paper proposes a description logic approach for representing and reasoning on fuzzy ER models. Firstly, an analysis about how to choose suitable description logic as a modeling language for fuzzy ER models is given, which motivates the use of the fuzzy description logic called FDLR (the fuzzy extension of DLR) for the purpose of this paper. Then, a formal definition of fuzzy ER models is proposed. Furthermore, based on the FDLR and the formalization of fuzzy ER models, we propose a complete formal approach for representing fuzzy ER models …with FDLR, i.e., transforming fuzzy ER models into FDLR knowledge bases at both terminological (schema) and assertional (instance) levels. On this basis, following the proposed approach, we implemented a prototype tool FER2FDLR. Finally, based on the transformed FDLR knowledge bases, we investigate how to reason on fuzzy ER models with FDLR, and the reasoning tasks of fuzzy ER models can be reasoned through the reasoning mechanism of FDLR. Abstract: Roadmapping, a tool of strategic planning, visualize where and how an organization will be in the future. Visualization of strategic programs assists people in the organization to understand the strategy which is a key for implementing strategy successfully. A generic roadmap is included of three main layers such as; market, product and technology. Decision making in each layer are done separately because of the nature of each layer. Therefore, decisions in roadmapping can be done with different tools. Whiles, decisions in each layer of the roadmap cannot be done without considering the upper or lower layer decisions. In this study …we propose Fuzzy PROMETHEE method for integrating decisions in roadmapping. In this method, alternatives are in terms of ordered triple (technology, product, market) which are determined by analyzing each of related layer by considering other layers. Some criteria have been recognized by analyzing the strategies as well. Decisions across the layers of the roadmap are modeled in PROMETHEE approach during the roadmapping process. The input data are in terms of linguistic terms. So, we have considered a revised Fuzzy PROMETHEE method. This paper addresses integrated decision making applicability for wind turbine in roadmapping process as a real case. Show more

Abstract: Hypergraphs are among the most ubiquitous models of both natural and human-made structures. They can be used to model system architectures and data structures, and to represent a partition, covering and clustering in the area of circuit design. In this paper, we introduce the notions of vague hypergraphs and dual vague hypergraphs and present some of their interesting properties. We also introduce the notion of A-tempered vague hypergraphs and investigate some of their properties.
