The journal Asymptotic Analysis fulfills a twofold function. It aims at publishing original mathematical results in the asymptotic theory of problems affected by the presence of small or large parameters on the one hand, and at giving specific indications of their possible applications to different fields of natural sciences on the other hand.
Asymptotic Analysis thus provides mathematicians with a concentrated source of newly acquired information which they may need in the analysis of asymptotic problems.

Abstract: A one-dimensional model for flame propagation in condensed phase combustion is considered. We prove existence and uniqueness of travelling wave solutions for finite activation energy. We study the asymptotic limit of the model for high activation energy.

Abstract: We consider a system of equations for natural convection in an porous medium, with Darcy's law for the momentum equation. Such a system is only partially dissipative; we establish the existence of an exponential attractor (inertial set) and we obtain estimates for its fractal dimension. The main difficulty lies in the lack of compactness of the corresponding semi group. We show strong continuity of the exponential attractors for a singular limit of the convection model.

Abstract: After having established the existence of smooth absorbing sets, thanks to suitable a priori estimates, we obtain for a class of partially dissipative reaction systems a property known as squeezing property. This last leads to the existence of exponential attractors for which the fractal dimension is finite. Some examples of systems, borrowed from biology or chemistry, are given.

Abstract: This paper is concerned with the asymptotic behaviour of the solution of a first order Hamilton-Jacobi type equation which models the propagation of a front in a medium with a periodic spatial inhomogeneity, characterised by a speed parameter R0 . We are interested in the behaviour of the solution for large time and when the spatial period tends to zero. We find that such an equation leads to an asymptotic speed which, surprisingly enough, is independent of the cell variation of the parameter R0 , but equals the maximum value of this parameter.
