Abstract: In this paper, we propose an energy efficient protocol based on fuzzy logic to not only extend the network lifetime, but also increase the data transmission efficiency in wireless sensor networks. The proposed protocol tries to select the cluster head by considering the current distance and residual energy with the help of fuzzy inference system. Simulation is carried out using OMNeT++ to demonstrate that the proposed protocol performs better than the other existing ones in terms of energy consumption, network lifetime and number of packets received by the sink node.
