Abstract: To establish a finite element (FE) model of the pig head for simulating firearm wounds. An experimental study was carried out by measuring impact load parameters from 17 fresh pig heads that were shot at the right part of cranium by a standard 7.62 mm M43 bullet. FE analysis was executed through the LS-DYNA code under impact loads similar to those obtained from the experimental study. The residual velocity, the transferred energy from the bullet to the cranium, and the surface area of the entrance showed no statistical differences between the FE simulation and the experimental study. However, the mean…surface area of the exit wounds was significantly larger than that of the entrance wounds in the experimental and FE study. Although the results of FE analysis corresponded with the experiment study, FE analysis further revealed that the stress zones were mainly located at the impact region of the cranium, mainly located in occipital lobe, frontal lobe and skull base of brain, with a lower speed of stress distribution. The FE model was appropriate and conformed to the basic principles of wound ballistics.

Abstract: First, a replicated dynamic equation for the spread of an SIS epidemic was proposed using the game theory. It was concluded that evolutionary stable strategies of an epidemic are (Z, C). Based on the method of multi-agent simulation by swarm 2.2, an evolutionary game model was developed to simulate the spread of an epidemic among individuals. It analyzed detailed information of the evolution and the game relationship between individuals in a micro perspective. The final simulation results were consistent with the conclusion of the replicated dynamic equation.
Abstract: Cerebral hemodynamic parameters are related to the occurrence and development of the cerebral vascular diseases. This paper proposes a new possible method for control treatment on cerebral circulation network diseases. Cerebral circulation is taken as a kind of fluid network that should be controlled. The acupuncture treatment in traditional Chinese medicine is used as an actuator, whose design principle is changing the artery pressure and resistance of the cerebral circulation to increase the blood flow, so as to achieve the purpose of treating cerebral circulation diseases. Clinical data of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment has also preliminarily proved the correctness of…this method.

Abstract: Cerebral vascular diseases are associated with cerebral hemodynamic parameter, which is difficult to observe and examine. This paper has proposed a new modeling method based on network and hemodynamics. The harmonic solution to the 18 branches of the circle of Willis is acquired through the plane network. We use this method to explain the development processes of vertebral artery diseases, and the hemodynamic assessment of vertebral artery stenosis have been done to prove this method.
Abstract: BACKGROUND: Epidemiological and experimental carcinogenesis studies provide evidence that components of garlic have anticancer activity. OBJECTIVE: In this study, the apoptotic effects of Garlic-derived compound S-allylmercaptocysteine (SAMC) were investigated in 8305C human anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cells. METHODS: The cell line 8305C (HPACC) were treated with SAMC and the MTT assay, flow cytometry (FCM), electron microscope method were used to test cell cycle, inhibitory rate and morphologic changes respectively. RESULTS: HPACC-8305C cells were suppressed after exposure to SAMC of 0.02 mg/ml, 0.06 mg/ml, and 0.1 mg/ml for…48 h. Compared with the control, the difference was significant (P< 0.05). SAMC could induce apoptosis of the cells in a dose-dependent and non-linear manner and increase the proportion of cells in the G2/M phase. Compared with the control, the difference was significant in terms of the percentage of cells in the G2/M phase (P< 0.05). After exposure to SAMC at 0.02 mg/ml for 24 hours, HPACC-8305C cells showed typical morphologic change. CONCLUSIONS: SAMC inhibits the growth of HPACC-8305C cells by induction of apoptotic cell death and inhibit telomerase activity, which appears to account for its anti-cancer activity.

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To analyze the changes of adiponection (ANP) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in patients with coronary heart diseases (CHD) of different types, to investigate the correlation between these changes and stability of coronary artery plague. METHODS: Inpatients of our hospital were divided into 56 cases with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), 56 cases with unstable angina pectoris (UA), 54 cases with stable angina pectoris (SA), and 60 cases with CHD excluded by using coronary arteriongraphy as the control group. Changes of ANP and MMP-9 were determined, and the correlation was analyzed. RESULTS: 1.…ANP and MMP-9 levels in CHD group were higher than those of control group (P < 0.01). 2. Serum ANP and MMP-9 levels in AMI and UA groups were significantly higher than those in control group and SA group (P < 0.05). 3. MMP-9 level in AMI group was significantly higher than that in UA group (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: 1. Increased ANP and MMP-9 levels are the independent risk factors of CHD; 2. Increased levels of ANP and MMP-9 in patients with CHD suggest instability of atherosclerotic plaque.

Abstract: A 76-year-old woman has got both lower limbs petechia and ecchymosis for 1 month, edema for 6 days and fever for 3 days. The patient suffered from purpura of both lower limbs, edema, arthralgia, recurrent fever, kidney damages, serositis, progressive reduction of platelet, moderate anemia and lymphadenopathy during the last two months. Laboratory examinations showed that her whole blood cells, platelet counts, serum albumin level and complements were all decreased and her titres of antibodies to double-stranded DNA (ds-DNA) were high. The patient had unequivocal SLE as she fulfilled seven American Rheumatism Association criteria (1997). Enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs)…for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was positive, while negative by Western blot analysis. A diagnosis of Systemic lupus erythematosus was made in view of the above findings. Because of the presence of autoantibodies and cross-reactivity, diagnosis of HIV infection should be cautious in patients with systemic autoimmune disease. The use of rigorous confirmatory testing by western blot analysis or immunofluorescence assay is therefore mandatory. More sensitive assays may be necessary to confirm the presence of HIV infection, such as gene amplification by the polymerase chain reaction, virus isolation and cultivation, the CD4 cell count and the ratio of CD4/CD8.

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To describe the feasibility and efficacy of CT-guided satellite ganglion block in the management of Prostatectomy pain in survivors of breast cancer. METHODS: Twenty-six breast cancer survivors with the complex regional pain syndrome were included in this retrospective study between 2012-07 and 2014-07. All suffered from prostatectomy pain and received CT-guided satellite ganglion block. Three blocks were performed for each patient using the same approach each time. Postmastectomy pain intensity using a visual analog score (VAS) and Patient satisfaction score (PSS) during scheduled visits at baseline, 2, 6 and 9 weeks following the…CT-guided satellite ganglion block. RESULTS: All patients had temporary Horner's syndrome indicating the effectiveness of the CT-guided satellite ganglion block and there were no adverse events resulting from the block. The mean visual analog scale score (VAS) was significantly decreasedand and Patient satisfaction score (PSS) was significantly increased after each block. CONCLUSIONS: CT-guided satellite ganglion block is a safe and successful treatment of Prostatectomy pain with few or no side-effects.

Abstract: A pychrotrophic bacterium secreing an extracellular alkaline cold-active lipase was isolated from refrigeratory. Based on morphology and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, the isolate which was named as PF16 was identified as a member of Pseudomonas . A novel lip-PF16 gene was obtained from the genomic DNA of strain PF16. Nucleotide sequence analysis showed that open reading frame (ORF) was consisting of 1,431 nucleotides encoding 476 amino acids long protein. Lip-PF16 showed 89.5% and 88% identity with the cold-adapted lipases from Pseudomonas fluorescens and Pseudomonas sp. KB700A, respectively. It was found to be a member of conserved subfamily…I.3 bacterial lipase, which contained a lipase consensus sequence GXSXG. The lip-PF16 gene was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) and functional lipase was obtained successfully. The molecular weight was estimated to be 50 KDa by sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) analysis. The cloned lipase was active over broad range of temperature range with optimum activity at 4^°C, and found to be alkaline preferring with optimum activity at pH 9.0. This recombination lipase show high catalytic activity at low temperature.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: TGFβ 1 is very important in the synthesis and degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM), and also in the mediation of human pulmonary fibroblasts proliferation, and miR-29 plays an important role in this process. OBJECTIVE: In the present study, the effects of TGFβ 1 on the expression of miR-29 and whether miR-29 is involved in pro-survival signaling pathways mediated by TGFβ 1 were examined in human pulmonary fibroblasts. METHODS AND RESULTS: Treatment of the human IMR-90 cells with TGFβ 1 caused a decrease in the expression of miR-29a/b/c as determined…by real-time PCR analysis. TGFβ 1 stimulation increased cell proliferation, colony formation and up-regulated expression of COL1A1; transfecting with miR-29a/b/c mimics reverse TGFβ 1-induced phenotype changes in IMR-90. Western blot analyses showed that TGFβ 1 treatment unchanged total protein expression levels of β -catenin, but phosphorylation of β -catenin and the expression levels of wnt3a and COL1A1 were increased; and miR-19a/b/c mimics interfering blocked DKK1, wnt3a, and phosphorylation of β -catenin and decreased expression of COL1A1 after TGFβ 1 treatment. Our results showed that TGFβ 1 activated the wnt/β -catenin pathway, and this activation was essential for the expression of miR-29 in IMR-90. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate a novel biological function of the wnt/β -catenin pathway in IMR-90. Elevated expression of miR-29 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of diseases related to fibrogenic reactions in human IMR-90.
