Abstract: Libraries, being hub of intellectual assets and tools, have added responsibility of serving their research scholars in every sphere of research activities. Academic libraries are accountable to facilitate research-based services such as access mechanism to explore digital collection and electronic resources, data collection tools, statistical software accessibility and usability, similarity check tools, research management tools, citation style manuals and referral services. A number of statistical analysis software have been developed for carrying out data analysis and interpretation. Statistical analysis system (SAS), MINITAB, STATA, R & MATLAB, MS-Excel, Perfect Statistics Professionally Presented (PSPP), and Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) are …worth quoting examples of SAS. The SPSS is one of the best statistical software maintained and marketed by IBM. The article presents a short overview of functionality, usability and applicability of SPSS in research. The article also takes into account how various types of files, statistical formulae, and steps to use SPSS for data evaluation, synthesis, interpretation, and visualization. Role of libraries in facilitating information about usage of statistical software packages has also been suitably discussed. Show more

Abstract: Text mining application is one of the most trending and highly researched areas in social sciences. To date, library professionals’ knowledge of text mining tools and practice is mainly limited, resultantly, the library community poorly understands the full range of issues related to text mining. This article provides information on applying a text mining approach called topic modelling in the library and information science domain. Topic modelling is a text mining approach that determines a generative model for documents. This article maps how topic modelling can be used in libraries through various databases during 2009–22 period. Abstract: Library websites are gateways to academic and scholarly information. They also function as guide to various services offered, and act as one of the principal sources of communication for the users. The study discussed in the present article examines the websites of 68 degree colleges located in four districts of Kerala state (India) which are affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The survey also investigates what sort of importance has been assigned to the libraries in the websites of the parent institutions. And in this context, the e-resources and web-based services provided (that is, Web OPAC, digital repository and value-added …services) have been evaluated. The findings reveal that only 50% of the colleges have active websites with web OPAC and provision of access to online resources. The study suggests that facilities like remote access to e-resources, web OPAC and other utility-based value-added services should be implemented in the websites of college libraries. Show more

Abstract: It has been well established, information makes a noteworthy contribution in the development of a nation. Information is used in each and every sphere of human life, thus collectively has a marked significance to a nation. Everyone desires to access information from their desk on 24×7 basis. In this regard, websites play a major role in facilitating both access and dissemination of the information. If the information content of a website is not able to fulfil information needs of its web users, then, these users are highly likely to switch over from that website. The article discusses a study that …attempts to evaluate uploaded e-content on the selectedwebsites of European national libraries on the basis of check points, largely based on review of literature and published guidelines. Analysis of data shows that most of the selected European national libraries uploaded introductory information, information about collection, and services, on their websites. A website for the national library is highly considered by most of the European countries. They prefer to upload maximum information pertaining to products and services offered by the librariesof national repute. However, still there is a need to revise or update their content on the website on regular basis. In this regard, the study being discussed had strongly suggested that the national libraries should ideally provide access to each piece of information through their websites. In addition, libraries should provide online access to their resources and services in a comprehensive manner. National libraries should develop their websites in such a way that these websites could provide services of reference librarians. Show more

Abstract: The artificial intelligence (AI) offers a number of benefits including but not limited to scalability, accuracy, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making. This has positively impacted several industries and service sectors. Given the complex nature of operation in library services, there is a significant scope for the application of AI services in the library operations. In this context, this article examines the applications and potential impact of AI on the libraries, services, and library professionals. The article first defines the scope of AI, followed by a review of contemporary policies and initiatives related to AI at the international and national levels. The …potential for applicability of the AI in the library operations has been analysed through a SWOT analysis for understanding strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with AI applications in the libraries. The article also discusses the significance of making library professionals aware of issues and challenges related to AI. The data for the article has been sourced through systematic review of the published literature. The results revealed that emerging AI technology has considerable potential for integration with a library’s operations and can improve its services and functions. However, there are several unexplored areas. The article gives insights that can be utilized to educate the library professionals about leveraging and integrating AI technology in the library landscape to provide adequate services to its patrons.
