Abstract: The Danish statistical system depends very much on data collected for administrative purposes. To obtain relevant definitions and combinations of data for statistical purposes identification numbers are needed to link information from different sources at the micro level. The most important identification numbers used in the administrative and statistical registers are presented, and their importance for the creation of the statistical system is shortly described. The identification numbers mentioned are the personal identification number, the address, the business number, the workplace number and the identification number of real estate.
