Abstract: A module on user education and staff training is offered as an option in a part-time M.A. degree for qualified librarians at Queen's University Belfast, in response to a need for more librarians to adopt a systematic approach to user education and staff training problems in libraries. This approach, derived from educational technology, enables librarians to identify aims and objectives, select appropriate content and methods, implement, evaluate and improve both user education and staff training programmes. The rationale underlying the module, the way it was conducted with a group of students and the outcomes, are described.
