Abstract: The objectives of the British Council are outlined, and the administration of the educational and training programmes are described in detail. The advantages of overseas training are identified, together with some of the disadvantages. The relevance of overseas education and training, especially the question of information technology, is examined. The importance of visits, specialist tours, and short term interchanges at a senior professional level is also discussed. The British Council headquarters has a specific role to play which is described. It is concluded that the British institutions should keep the British Council informed of course developments, and that initiatives should come from the British Council offices overseas. The main product that is exported by the British Council is people.
