In 2012 Computability – the Journal of the Association Computability in Europe was launched and this is the ninth issue that has appeared since then. Time to step back and to report on a number of changes. The first one is a very sad one.

On 26 October 2015, our Managing Editor S. Barry Cooper passed away after a short illness. Barry was much more than one of the Managing Editors to this journal: as the president of the Association CiE from 2008 to 2015 and as the chairman of the Turing Centenary Advisory Committee preparing the Turing celebrations of the year 2012 which included the launch of this journal, he was the driving force behind the creation of Computability.

Barry was born in 1942 and raised in Bognor Regis; he read Mathematics at Jesus College, Oxford, and obtained his PhD from the University of Leicester under the supervision of Reuben Goodstein and Mike Yates. From 1969 until his passing, Barry had been an active researcher and teacher at the University of Leeds. We all will feel the tremendous loss to our community for many years to come.

In this issue of Computability, Benedikt Löwe discusses Barry’s central role for the Association Computability in Europe in his article “Barry Cooper (1942–2015): The engine of Computability in Europe”. Our journal has not had any special issues so far, but the Managing Editors decided to have a special memorial issue for Barry with a detailed scientific obituary and articles in honour of Barry’s life and work.11

In order to reflect the pivotal role that Barry played for the creation of this journal we will list him as an Honorary Editor from now on. During a meeting of the Managing Editors at the CiE conference in July 2015 Benedikt Löwe suggested to step down as a Managing Editor at the end of 2015 and we would like to use this opportunity to thank him for his contributions to our journal in this role! He will remain a regular member of the Editorial Board. Olivier Bournez (Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France) will join the team of Managing Editors from 2016 onwards. We would also like to welcome Hajime Ishihara (Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Ishikawa, Japan) and André Nies (University of Auckland, New Zealand) as new members of the Editorial Board of Computability.

Finally, we would like to report that Computability is currently indexed in the following data bases: DBLP Computer Science Bibliography (Trier & Dagstuhl), Emerging Sources Citation Index (Thomson Reuters), Google Scholar, Mathematical Reviews (MathSciNet), Zentralblatt MATH (zbMATH). The Emerging Sources Citation Index is a newly created index for emerging journals and we are optimistic that this is a first step towards a listing in the full citation index of Thomson Reuters.
