Welcome to Issue 1 of Volume 25, of Advances in Communication and Swallowing (ACS).

We are delighted to see a steady stream of submissions to ACS from multiple countries across the globe and from a variety of healthcare professions. In 2021, we published 155 pages of content and the journal had over 3.3K page views. Authors were evenly distributed across Europe (39%), North America (35%) and Oceania (26%). ACS is already abstracted in Google Scholar and we are in the process of applying to various abstracting and indexing databases. The future is bright!

During a time of international discord, it is heartening to see continued international representation in this first issue of Volume 25. Articles in this latest issue continue to span three continents (Asia, Europe, Oceania) and the topics covered reflect our evolving services to meet international communities. Within this first issue of 2022, there are papers that include an insightful “Spotlight on...” article on speech and language therapy (SLT) and the humanities, and another paper that focuses on an investigation into SLT use of telepractice. A case report examines use of a side-lying posture in an adult with dysphagia secondary to head and neck cancer, and a systematic review explores SLT interpreter collaboration in the paediatric population. A fitting tribute to Prof. James Law is also presented to mark his recent passing in Autumn 2021, and to honour his significant contribution to speech and language therapy.

Our inaugural Spring lecture was delivered by Professor Shaun O’Keeffe in April 2022, based upon O’ Keeffe et al.’s popular paper in ACS (Vol 24, Issue 1) entitled “Aspiration, risk and risk feeding: A critique of the Royal College of Physicians guidance on care of people with eating and drinking difficulties”. The lecture was attended by an impressive international online audience. We hope to offer another online event in Autumn 2022. Meanwhile, do watch out for an upcoming Special Issue within ACS which is already in preparation.

We hope you enjoy this first issue of 2022. Please continue to support ACS on this exciting journey as we strive to meet the needs of our readers.
