Abstract: In our progressive era of technology, digitization is becoming the link between businesses, people, processes, and data. Since digitization is now a common practice for storing and retrieving data, Electronic Health Record (EHR) management services are rapidly becoming popular as it allows users to store and access their data anywhere at any time. EHR management is bringing many benefits including easy storage, cost effectiveness, shareable with health professionals to a remote location, etc. However it is very challenging to adopt cloud-based EHR services, due to the risk of data breaches and the resulting compromise of patient data. Since EHR stores …very sensitive data, a number of security properties including privacy, secrecy, integrity, authenticity and availability of data must be ensured during data transmission, storing and sharing with health professionals. In this study, we have studied symmetric key based technique in designing EHR management protocol. The protocol allows the patient to handle the responsibility of authorizing data access, thus this is a patient-centric protocol. Attributes (e.g., specialization, location, affiliated hospital, etc.) of a health professional is used to delegate access to EHR of a patient, and thus attribute-based access control has been achieved. The protocol we have designed is then validated using AVISPA, an industry-strength security protocol validation tool. AVISPA has confirmed our protocol free from known attacks and confirmed the desired security properties as well. Show more

Abstract: Network Lifetime (NL) is a pivotal issue in real time data monitoring using Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). In this paper, we propose a distributed MAC protocol for NL maximization based on spatial correlation and opportunistic transmission, which we named Spatial Correlation based Clustered Opportunistic Protocol (SCCOP). SCCOP employs a novel spatial correlation model to cleave the network into correlated clusters. The transmission scheduling in clusters is done according to NL maximization condition, which incorporates channel statistics of individual sensors into carrier sensing and backoff strategy. From each cluster, an energy-efficient sensor node with the best channel is scheduled to transmit …its data directly to the access point (AP) as the representative node for the whole cluster. Accordingly, SCCOP achieves significant reduction in redundant data transmission as well as energy consumption in the wireless network. The simulation results show that as the node density in the network increases, SCCOP has better performance enhancement in terms of NL, throughput, energy saving and outage. Show more

Abstract: Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is one of the future technologies that envisions the real-time vehicular communication. This technology uses the support of IEEE wireless communication protocols to successfully exchange messages between vehicles. The implementation and testing of VANET scenarios in real-time is challenging since it requires an expensive infrastructure. Hence, the simulation of VANET scenarios play an important role in evaluating the performance of these large-scale networks. However, the proper simulation of VANET scenarios should satisfy two main requirements: realistic mobility of vehicles on the roads and wireless network communication. A comparison of the various simulation tools that can be …used for VANET scenarios has been undertaken in this work. The work also proposes an architecture for online and offline communication between Network Simulator 3 (NS3) and Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) with public cloud support. The performance of the proposed architecture has been evaluated using various VANET simulation scenarios with varied number of vehicles along with real-time road traffic scenarios. The discussed and illustrated results show that the proposed architecture can be used for simulating various realistic VANET scenarios efficiently with a large number of vehicles in real-time. Abstract: Wireless networks are present in all the large buildings or sites, and they are expected to provide high speed Internet for the connected users. This can be achieved by connecting wireless routers to the Internet backbone through fast connection cables (e.g. fiber optics), as well finding optimal distribution of the routers along the building, so that the targeted area is covered with Internet access as much as possible, provided that the cost constraints of routers and the cost of their mutual interconnection are satisfied. Therefore, in this paper, we present two approaches for solving the problem of router placement in …a two-dimensional area, where the goal is to provide optimal Internet coverage by meeting the cost constraints. Our first approach is based on Genetic Algorithms, and the second one employs the Greedy-Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure. Both approaches utilize a neighborhood exploration mechanism that consists of operators which are dealing with adding, removing, jumping and shifting routers in the target area. Furthermore, an advanced operator for intelligent shifting of routers inside a predefined neighborhood is implemented. The computational experiments, performed over a data set of four large instances, indicate that both proposed approaches can obtain competitive results to the ones that are presently available in the literature. Consequently, the results indicate that both approaches can be easily adapted for application in practice for designing the topography of wireless networks, in terms of router placement and distribution. Abstract: Optimal power flow (OPF) problems play a central role in planning and operating a transmission power system in a reliable, flexible and secure manner. In this paper, a significant intelligent algorithm based on the Particle Swarm Optimization method is proposed for solving the optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) problem by adjusting equality and inequality constraints. The objective function which is considered for optimal active and reactive power dispatch is the minimization of transmission power losses. In order to solve ORPD problems, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based on the Newton Raphson method is coded with MATLAB software and the results of …the simulation are compared to the Interior Point method as the classical method for minimization transmission losses in the Nordic 44 system. The Nordic 44 system consists of three countries, including Norway, Finland, and Sweden, and has 44 buses, 67 branches and 61 generators. The results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm compared to the other methods for the minimization of total power losses for Nordic 44. The simulation results of the proposed method for the Nordic 44 system are compared to the results of the PSO algorithm for the ORPD problem in several networks, including IEEE 14 buses, 30 buses, and 57 buses. Abstract: Continuous technology scaling in semiconductor industry makes the system reliability as a serious concern in the area of nanoscale computing. In this paper, a fully adaptive routing algorithm is proposed to overcome faults in NoCs (Network-on-Chip). This algorithm called DINRA-NoC (DIstiributed and New Routing Algorithm for NoC) is distributed, fault tolerant and congestion-aware. First, each node selects the appropriate output to route packets to neighbor routers according to the state of each link and router. Secondly, the proposed routing algorithm takes in account the status of adjacent routers traffic to update the congestion metric. DINRA-NoC does not use any VCs …(Virtual Channels) and is deadlock-free. A simulation of the proposed routing algorithm has been carried out using Noxim simulator. The results show that DINRA ensures a good reliability rate despite of the presence of many faulty routers/links. In other hand, the simulation results indicate that the performance of the proposed routing algorithm surpasses the performance of existing algorithms in terms of lowering the congestion, improving average latency and increasing throughput.
