Abstract: In a cross-sectional study, we compared 76 employed and 76 unemployed young adults regarding relationship quality, health and risk behaviours. We analyzed effects of gender and occupational status on life satisfaction. Further, associations between relationship quality and mental health depending on employment status were of interest. The participants were asked to complete a questionnaire. Whereas employed young adults reported a higher level of life satisfaction, no significant differences could be found concerning relationship quality and risk behaviour between the groups. Jealousy as one aspect of relationship quality was a risk factor for mental health, independent of employment status. The results provide important information for the development of health-promoting programs for young adults.
