Abstract: There is a unbearable inadequacy between the high dimension of
achievements generated by established psychological psychotherapists on the one
side and the low financial rewards on the other side. In 2004 almost half of
all psychotherapists (47.2%) from several federal states in east and west
Germany, who participated in the study, report a net income of merely 30 000
Euro per year at most (approx. 2500 Euro/month at most). More than one third of
the psychotherapists (36.6%) report that they cannot pay properly for their
(and their families) living with their income. Especially concerned are these
psychotherapists (11.5%) who are the main or sole earner in a family with
children and earn at most 30 000 Euro per year. 53% of these colleagues report
that they cannot care for their families in an adequate way.
