Abstract: This paper outlines challenges and requirements for developing tools and services supporting automated generation, management, evolution, and execution of Data Management Plans (DMPs) by reviewing Research Data Management (RDM) processes in the light of using the method of Knowledge-based and Process-oriented Innovation Management (German: Wissenbasiertes Prozessorientiertes Innovations management, WPIM) to represent and Collaborative Production Process Planning (CAPP) to structure them. The reviewed models include the Open Archive Information System (OAIS, ISO 14721, ISO 16363) Information Model and the Extended Information Model. In this way, the targeted approach is able to support various types of processes, domains, and organizations and package the relevant context information related to a data object by serializing them using the Open Archives Initiative Object Reuse and Exchange (OAI-ORE) format specification.
