From the Editor

I write this From the Editor during my observance of the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah. For those unfamiliar with this holiday, the term means “head of the year” and marks the start of the year 5778 in the lunisolar Jewish calendar. As told in the book of Genesis, this is the number of years since the world was created. I attended services in observance of the holiday and was touched by the Rabbi’s discussion of the “lost-ness” many people are experiencing due to ongoing natural disasters, terrorism, political upheaval and an overall unrest in the world. It inspired me to use this forum to share a prayer for peace:

May we see the day when war and bloodshed cease, When a great peace will embrace the whole world. The nation will not threaten nation. And humanity will not again know war. For all who live on earth shall realize We have not come into being to hate or to destroy. We have come into being To praise, to labor, and to love”…

(Adapted and translated from the Hebrew of Rabbi Nathan Sternhartz; 1780-1845)
