From the Editor

Serendipity: It’s a word that I find intriguing. Serendipity is stumbling on something valuable when you are not searching for it. As I recently heard at the Occupational Therapy Research Summit, serendipity is having a prepared mind to recognize these opportunities. I attribute the genesis of WORK to serendipity. In 1989, I was in a telephone conversation with Dr. Gary Kielhofner and he mentioned that he was a consultant for a small startup publisher, Andover Press, who were looking for journals. I responded that I had an idea for an international, interprofessional journal on the concept of work. Gary made the introductions and coincidentally the publisher was located in my home town in Massachusetts. We met the next day and 27 years later, I am writing this From the Editor. Serendipity.

This issue of WORK contains two sections. The first section, on the topic of work innovation and sustainable development, is guest co-edited by Pascal Béguin and Francisco Moura Duarte. My gratitude is extended to Pascal and Francisco for their leadership.

The second section contains six articles on a variety of topics such as attrition, disability management, musculoskeletal disorders, work-related stress among others. I know you will topics of interest from both sections.
