Abstract: The importance of homogeneity in industrial data warrants the development of methods by which it may be measured for some particular purposes. These methods can be described by way of illustrating a general conceptual framework. The most commonly used homogeneity ratio, the primary product specialization ratio, can be shown to be a special case with certain characteristics. Some related or subordinate conceptual issues arise in actual application of this common homogeneity ratio and its conceptual applications can be highlighted. The general conceptual framework can also be applied to results of non-industrial surveys.
