Note: [1] Antal Molnár, since 1975 Deputy Head of Section of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, has been responsible for the activity of the Section of Water Management and Game Propagation, relating to statistical surveys, control of data supply, preparation of data processing, analyses and publication of data. The section published under his leadership several compilations of statistics on the wealth, production and use of thermal waters in Hungary, on the utilization of geothermal energy, on water management, on the production and use of forestry products as well as on game propagation and hunting.
Abstract: Thermal waters in Hungary are characterized by their emergence, temperature, organic and inorganic material content. The utilization of thermal springs in Hungary dates back to one-and-a-half thousand years. Thermal waters and their geothermal energy content are used in various ways. Thermal waters have recently been used for substituting imported fossil fuels. Statistics on the thermal water economy are under development. In the past, compilation of statistics had to rely on incomplete diaries and registers and expert judgement. A fully satisfactory reporting system can only be envisaged once its prerequisites are implemented. Until that time, complete enumeration surveys are carried out in order to obtain data necessary for the management of the thermal water economy.
