Abstract: The paper analyses the need for a pro-active approach by statistical organizations. It discusses the pros and cons, argues the case for a pro-active approach and presents some experiences. The role of Statistical Offices in the policymaking process is described, with a special relation to the EU Lisbon process. Tools are presented that can help to improve the relationships.
