Abstract: National Statistical Institutes are currently facing significant changes: innovative approaches that promote integration and standardization are replacing the traditional statistical production chain, based on the vertical integration of survey-specific tasks. Given the significant impact of such innovative approaches, it is necessary to manage and harness the changing process. The adoption of an Enterprise Architecture (EA) helps in this direction by identifying business needs, improving collaboration across an organization and ensuring that the technology is aligned to the strategic vision. In this scenario, CSPA offers a ``reference architecture'' for a wide spread of the ``plug and play'' approach in designing, implementing, sharing and reusing statistical software solutions, largely based both on statistical standards such as GSBPM and GSIM, and on the ''service-oriented architecture'' model. The implementation of modernization programs is a current issue, requiring several National and Supra-national investments. Istat is currently investing on CORE as the principal solution for SOA-based process industrialization. This paper presents CORE main features and highlights how CORE meets important goals, such as process automation, software sharing and support for collaborative work.
