Abstract: SBA-15 surface was modified with silane reagent to increase its surface activity. Dibenzoyl methane (DBM) complexes were formed with Zn2+ and Er3+ then grafted onto the surface of SBA-15 resulting in the composite material, M(DBM)3-(SBA-15). The organic ligand DBM enhanced the energy-transfer efficiency, and enhanced the luminescent intensity of the Er3+ ion. At the same time, the Zn complex had a strong absorption to ultraviolet light, which enhanced the luminescent intensity of the rare earth ion. The Er3+ could be shielded from the environment when it was introduced into porous SBA-15, which suppressed the temperature-quenching effect. These factors resulted in much higher relative luminescent intensities for the M(DBM)3-(SBA-15) composite material.
