Abstract: Novel copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II), manganese(II), zinc(II) and cadmium(II) complexes of Schiff base ligand [H2L] (1), 3,3′-(naphthalene-1,8-diylbis(azanylylidene))bis(ethan-1-yl-1-ylid-ene))bis(2-hydroxy-6-methyl 4H-pyran-4-one) have been prepared and characterized using physio-chemical and spectroscopic techniques. The molar conductance data revealed that all complexes are non-electrolytic in nature. The IR data showed that the ligand behaved either as neutral or dibasic tetradentate bonded to the metal ion through the two azomethine groups and protonated or deprotonated hydroxyl groups. The electronic spectral data and magnetic measurements of the complexes indicated that the geometries are octahedral. The ESR spectra of the copper(II) complexes indicated an axial symmetry type of a d(x2-y2) ground state with considerably covalent environment. Complexes (6) and (7) have the best insecticidal activity.
