Abstract: A new compound of N-(octyloxy)phenyl-N ′-(cinnamoyl) thiourea (3) doped with Curcuma longa as photosensitizer was successfully designed, prepared and characterized prior to form conductive thin film. The compound was spectroscopically characterized via conventional analysis including CHNS elemental analysis, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), 1H and 13C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) as well Cyclic Voltammery analysis (CV). The investigation of its potential as dopant system in conducting films has been accomplished by incorporating Curcuma longa as the selected dye on ITO substrate and evaluation by Four Point Probe and Semiconductor Characterization System analysis. The findings revealed that the thin film of curcumin/3/ITO performed better and exhibited increased conductivity of 0.2144Scm−1 to 0.2308Scm−1 under maximum light intensity of 100 Wm−2. Moreover, quantum mechanical calculation by TD-DFT for the HOMO and LUMO energies shows that the charge transfer occurs between thiourea and the photosensitizer.
