Abstract: Due to growing number of replacement and revision surgeries, total knee replacement (TKR) has become one of the most critical biomedical applications. For multiple and conflicting criteria, appropriate material selection for femoral component of TKR becomes an important strategic decision making problem. In this paper, a simple, systematic and logical scientific approach is structured to evaluate appropriate material for femoral component of TKR through integrating Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP) with the Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE). The proposed decision-making approach takes advantage of the synergy between these two well-known multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods in which their strong and weak points are detected and a ranking is provided with sensitivity analysis which facilitates the final selection for the decision maker.
