Abstract: The method of snapshots is an efficient feature extracting method of processing data for distributed parameter systems. To enhance the performance of the method of snapshots, the concept of POD angle is introduced in this paper. The impact of sampling numbers imposed on the calculation of the method of snapshots is analyzed, and then the calculating procedure of POD angle is presented. In the studied heat transfer process in a thin rod, the method of snapshots with different sampling numbers is investigated using proposed method. The results show that the relative error of eigenfuction is 0.24%, and the relative error of data reconstruction is 0.27%. The scale of data decreases by 96.46% and 98.21%, respectively. Furthermore, the computing time decreases by 12.87% and 44.69%, respectively. Therefore, the complexity and difficulty of the method of snapshots are both reduced by using the method proposed in this paper.
