Abstract: Compared with the United States, the “large but not strong” situation of China’s manufacturing industry is still prominent. The reasons are, in addition to the “two-end squeeze” of “re-industrialization” of developed countries and emerging economies relying on low-cost advantages to build new “world factories”, China’s development shows weak core competitiveness, few leading companies and brands, fragmented production chains, low labor productivity in manufacturing, weak technological innovation capabilities, internal disadvantages such as insufficient support for high-end factors required for manufacturing industry development and the need to optimize the business environment, which should arouse greater attention. Therefore, based on Gravity Model, Sustainable Livelihood Framework and Core Competitive theory were used to find the reason and solution, and there is still a long way to go to build a strong manufacturing country.
