It has been brought to the authors’ attention that the formulation of VSL#3® may have changed subsequent to its use in the article as published in final form in 2020. For the sake of clarity, the product commercially distributed as VSL#3® circa 2016, and as procured by the authors and referred to herein as “VSL#3,” comprised eight strains of lactic acid producing bacteria: Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus delbrueckii subspecies Bulgaricus, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium infantis, and Streptococcus salivarius subspecies thermophilus. This same formulation is understood to now be commercially available as Visbiome®.
