Subtitle: Part II. Near vertical ascent
Article type: Research Article

Abstract: In Part I excessive positive buoyancy was shown to cause lateral instability of the buoyant ascent of an underwater vehicle whose excess buoyancy is forward of the centre of mass so that the motion is predominantly forward. A divergent motion in roll and yaw occurred. This Part examines ascents in which the buoyancy is further aft so that the motion is near vertical. Excessive buoyancy is shown to cause a divergent oscillation in roll, sway and yaw.
