Note: [1] Collection of papers presented at the informative meetings on the Netherlands Ship Model Basin ship handling and manoeuvring simulator in Wageningen at October 22, 1969 and in New York at November 7, 1969.
Abstract: Simulation of ship manoeuvring qualities by means of free-running models and a manoeuvring simulator is discussed briefly. It is shown how the use of a manoeuvring simulator has advantages when the human operator is an important part of the system and when automatic control systems and navigating instruments have to be developed and adjusted. The use of a simulator in ship design handling is shown. A description is given of the new N.S.M.B. manoeuvring simulator.
