Abstract: A new cavitation tunnel has been built at the N.S.M.B. especially for studying the fundamentals of cavitation. This small size tunnel is characterised by the very wide range of operating conditions in the measuring section as to speed, pressure and temperature. The tunnel medium may be water or another liquid with a viscosity not too far from that of water. The tunnel loop is constructed of stainless materials, has no cascades, is externally cooled and has a special pressurizing system. Calibrations showed that the velocity profile in the measuring section has a maximum discrepancy of O.2% compared with the ideal velocity profile. The maximum tunnel speed is 80 m/sec if the tunnel is filled with water.
