Abstract: Experiments have been carried out with a Series 60 model ballasted to give it five different longitudinal moments of inertia. The tests were carried out in regular head and bow seas. The results have been used to calculate the behaviour in irregular waves for ships with a length of 100m., 150m. and 200m. It is concluded that a small longitudinal moment of inertia is favourable in regard to speed loss.
