Abstract: Research on the relationship between thermal and current density relates the design and application of the electrical machine, which is important in the process of improving motors’ efficiency and working capacity. In this article, an electromagnetic-thermal (EM-thermal) coupled-field analysis and fitting method are adopted to research the relationship among current density, recovery time and duration factor of a permanent magnet synchronous linear motor (PMSLM), and the longitudinal temperature characteristics are analyzed, the simulation results are verified by the experiment. The relationship makes it easier for designers to maximize the torque/power rating by increasing the winding current density within the limit of temperature and provides a basis for the design and choice of PMLSM under different working conditions.
