Abstract: This paper investigates vibration control via electromagnetic shunt damping. A new damper based on electromagnetic shunt damping is designed, and mathematical model of the damper is developed to obtain the equivalent damping coefficient. Simulation of the vibration control of a SDOF system is conducted. Results of the simulation reveal that the new electromagnetic shunt damper can greatly attenuate vibration transmitted to structures.
