Abstract: In this paper, the theories and general concept of the topology optimization in the electromagnetic system are explained, and the applications to the optimal design of electromagnetic devices and the inverse problems are shown. As a way of defining the relationship between the design variables and material properties, homogenization method or density method can be used. The mutual energy method is also explained for the design sensitivity analysis in the topology optimization.
