Capacitance computation of thin conductors with the fast multipole method

Abstract: Computing the capacitance coefficients of a multiconductor system embedded in multiple piecewise homogeneous dielectrics with the boundary element method in combination with the fast multipole method, the memory requirements and the computational cost for the solution of the system of linear equations are approximately proportional to the number of unknowns. In this paper it will be shown, that the calculation of the free charges on the conductors and with it the calculation of the capacitance coefficients can be accelerated, if the fast multipole method is also used for the post-processing.
