Abstract: The biomedical applications of telecommunications, emphasizing videotex, are described. ‘Information utilities’ are featured, including teleconferencing, interactive CATV, database networks etc. A variety of telecommunication aspects of videotex are reviewed—including interactive videotex, domestic (US) and international systems, with emphasis on biomedical applications. A list of projects and participants is included. The paper concludes by highlighting information issues affecting the biomedical community.
