Abstract: This paper is about the management of personal knowledge. The
perspective taken on knowledge management is one of organising, or nurturing
knowledge workers; staffs that need to constantly learn from their own
inquiries. The paper argues that knowledge can be managed but our
conceptualisation of management needs to change from one of planning and
control to one of nurturing creative ideas in its knowledge workers in a
diverse and complex global environment. The personal perspective of knowledge
is discussed, as is the idea of managers as the designers of innovation from
employees. These are combined to emphasise a particular perspective on
knowledge management.
