Abstract: This paper puts forward a set of empirical propositions relating to technology, skills, and training. It attempts to link them together to point to a general theory of work-organization, by seeing how skill-needs are changing and leading to a new occupational profile in the enterprise. The implications for training, selection and recruitment are then explored.
