Abstract: Electronic commerce should be viewed less as a phenomenon of business on-line and more as a challenge of organization redesign. Five general leading approaches to organization design are examined from the perspective of electronic commerce. A quasi-general organization design approach is proposed specifically for electronic commerce projects. The proposed approach emphasizes the organizational support for the electronic commerce strategy identification, network organization design, task design, and reward system design in the electronic commerce age.
