Abstract: Some of the reasons for establishing inhouse training programmes with the installation of library automation systems are mentioned. The following issues associated with such programmes are discussed: who should provide the training; who should receive the training; the aims and objectives of the programme; the content of the programme; methods to be used; documentation; and future training requirements. A description of an inhouse programme recently provided at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh is given. [French, German and Spanish translations of this abstract can be found on p. 92]
