Abstract: The current state and likely future of education for collection management/collection development are explored, with reference to conditions in the United Kingdom, Australia and North America. It is suggested that, even in an environment relying heavily on information held in electronic format, there is likely to be a strong need for collections and for the skills required to create and manage them. Educators need to take account of rapid and profound changes but should resist any tendency to diminish the role of collection management/collection development in the curriculum.
