Abstract: An object-oriented computer model of parts of Dutch morphophonology is presented. The description emphasises the interaction between lexical, phonetic and orthographic representations in morphological analysis, morphological synthesis and phonemisation. Applications of the model in the domain of text processing (hyphenation, spelling error detection and correction), lexicography, the development of intelligent tutoring systems and speech synthesis will be described. We will try to show that the incorporation of a linguistically motivated model in language technological applications leads to greater accuracy than a traditional approach with ad hoc data structures and procedures for each single application.
